Sarah goes the the Circus

Last night, Stephen called me on the way home to tell me he had gotten a coupon a couple of weeks earlier for a circus at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. We didn't know anything about it, but thought it would be fun to take Sarah. We weren't sure how she would like it, but wanted to take her and see. We met at home and headed over to McDonald's for some dinner. Then we drove over to the Fairgrounds, which is only about 10 minutes from our house. This particular circus was a performing family. Here is the flyer.

We ended up getting there early, so we walked around the side of the building where you could see some of the animals in the back. There was a camel eating hay, and some lions and tigers in cages. There were some little ponies far off behind the building. As soon as Sarah saw the cages, she started squealing and pointing and saying "look" and jumping up and down. So excited! So we talked to her about the animals, then went and sat in the car for about 20 minutes to wait in the warm...it was only about 30 degrees last night! When the doors opened for the 7:30 show, we went in and found a seat and let Sarah walk around and look at everything. She was especially interested in all the kids filtering in. She wouldn't sit down and be still until the show started. Once the show started, she was completely mesmerized. They started with the tiger/lion show, which was actually very cool. The Gwinnett Fairgrounds building is kinda small, and the ring is very close to you as you are sitting and watching the show. You can see the animals very close. Sarah loved the "tigres" and lions. She watched all the shows, and even clapped along with the audience. She was all smiles. They also had acrobatics, clowns, a camel show, a performing dogs show, and then some an elephant show. We left after the elephants because it was getting late. In all, Sarah had a blast. She loved every minute of the circus. She got to see all kinds of very cool animals up very close, she got to participate in being part of a large audience, and she got to eat cotton candy and peanuts! I know she loved her first experience with the circus, and I am glad we took her to this small local one where she got to experience it on a small scale.
